Nedd Lodge, located in the township of Nedd in the parish of Assynt Sutherland, has recently been refurbished and is now offered for holiday lets. The Lodge sleeps 6 and the upstairs living area affords exceedingly fine views north to Handa Island and the hills of Foinaven and Arkle, and east to Quinag.
Nedd (An Nead - Gaelic for nest) is a small crofting township on the north coast of the parish of Assynt. It is surrounded by ancient native woods and overlooks the sea-loch, Loch Nedd, where otters and seals can be seen occasionally.
On arrival you can drive into the garage and unload directly into the house. The large garage has a deep freeze and plenty of space for boots, coats, fishing gear etc. There are also drying facilities, sinks for gutting those fish and airing racks for wet clothes. (It does rain now and again!)
At the back of the house the entry leads to the 3 bedrooms on the ground floor. There are two twin rooms and a room with bunk beds for 2. Each room has a wash-hand basin. There are two bathrooms and a washing machine on the ground floor. There is also a small drying room for linen etc.(not big wet jackets). Upstairs there is another WC and a shower.
The main part of upstairs is open plan with a spacious sitting area, and dining room table. The kitchen opens off the dining area and has a gas oven and electric fridge. Double sinks, a dishwasher and a microwave complete the kitchen. From the kitchen a door opens onto a large veranda on top of the garage. There are wooden rails around the edge but small children would need supervision here. An excellent place to watch Quinag slowly turning purple in the evening sun.
There are many different varieties of sea birds as well as seals to see in Loch Nedd
There is good trout fishing on the many hill lochs as well as salmon fishing and stalking. These are available by separate arrangement through Callum Miller in Drumbeg. (01571 833 269)
Handa, the famous bird sanctuary, the Stoer Lighthouse, Kerrachar, the well known garden, the Caves of Assynt and the 'Moine Thrust', a major geological feature, are all of interest and within easy reach.
The hill walking is spectacular with many fine mountains to climb including Quinag, Suilven, Canisp, Ben More Assynt, Benn Stack, Arkle and Foinaven.
